The major milestone for the year was the adoption of the National Action Plan for Persons with Albinism (NAPPWA) by the government of Uganda during the commemoration for the International Albinism Awareness Day on 13th June 2022 in Lira District. This made Uganda the 3rd African country on top of Mozambique and Malawi to domesticate the African Plan of Action on Albinism (Plan of Action 2021-2031). The NAPPWA is anchored on key principles of equality, non-discrimination, inclusion and participation for all. This signified government’s commitment towards enhancement of human rights promotion and protection for the fraternity.
In 2022, Albinism Umbrella commemorated an impressive half-decade of dedicated service, marked by remarkable milestones, noteworthy achievements, and a visionary outlook towards enhancing a dignified society for persons with albinism. The celebration of this significant anniversary is not only a testament to our continuing commitment but also a reflection of the steadfast dedication to improving the lives of persons with albinism, restoring hope, empowerment, and a brighter future for the albinism community.
