Persons with albinism face unique health challenges, such as increased susceptibility to skin cancer and visual impairments. This is coupled with their constant rejection at different service points by service providers, something that prompted Albinism Umbrella to introduce the Community Score Card, as a Citizen Led Accountability practice and a participatory tool that would empower rights holders to evaluate the level of health service provision and advocate for their specific health needs. To date, Albinism Umbrella has conducted the exercise in 6 health facilities in the districts of Buikwe, Wakiso, Kamuli, Lira, Hoima and Bushenyi, and reached out to 231 people (107F,124M), including health care providers and rights holders.
The CSC has not only been significant in identifying gaps in healthcare services tailored to their requirements, but has also promoted rights holders participation, transparency, accountability, and community-driven initiatives, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of health outcomes for persons with albinism.
