This is a 3-year project funded by Christian Blind Mission. The primary objective of the project is to improve the quality of life of Persons with Disabilities and community members through economic livelihood initiatives, eye care and advocacy in the districts of Kyegegwa and Kamwenge by 2025.
Under this program, Albinism Umbrella has enrolled 72 self-selected groups in to i-SAVE program and reached out to over 2050 people including, persons with disabilities, caretakers of persons with disabilities and the community in the districts of Kamwenge and Kyegegwa. The objective is to ensure that persons with disabilities are economically independent, socially recognized and included thus reducing disparities within their communities.
The same program has also build capacity of 1042 members of the i-SAVE groups in financial literacy, record and book keeping to empower them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage their financial resources.
To support the i-SAVE program, over 70 i-SAVE kits were distributed to groups to facilitate appropriate financial documentation and maintain transparency.
Other areas of intervention are not limited to;
- Linking of i-SAVE groups to financial institutions
- Extending vocational skills to 313 youths from the formed i-SAVE groups and attaching them to potential employers
- Orientation of potential employers/ trainers about the employability and inclusion of persons with disabilities
- Provision of startup kits for self-employed youth
- Training persons with disabilities in good agricultural practices
- Creating linkages of the registered i-SAVE groups to government programmes like special grant, parish model, Uganda Women Empowerment Programme, among others
