This initiative under the Aga Khan Foundation “COVID-19 response program” economically empowered over 50 rights holders. Its main aim was to improve the quality of life for vulnerable persons with albinism in the districts of Kampala and Wakiso, particularly those that suffered from the COVID 19 aftermath.
The intervention was multi-faceted beginning with the provision of basic needs like food and soap to 80 project beneficiaries which helped to address to their immediate and critical concerns, ensuring that they have access to essential sustenance and hygiene items.
Albinism Umbrella, through this livelihood intervention trained 56(43F,13M) project beneficiaries in new business ventures that could thrive amidst current challenges, sustainability dynamics and management of small business. These trainings acted as the foundation for the sustainability and continuity of their small business even after the end of the intervention.
The same project supported 29 business coaching trainees with startup capital that enabled them to undertake livelihood interventions from the confines of their homes. This moved a long way in improving their ability to have a stream of income, be able to access social services and improve their social- economic status.
