Albinism Umbrella, in partnership with students from ALOHA College Marbella and Mengo Hospital, and with support from Liliane Fonds, hosted a memorable and inclusive Child Fun Day at the Buikwe District Grounds on Saturday, 4th July 2026.
The event brought together over 300 participants, including children with and without disabilities, parents, caregivers, community leaders, local government officials, and other stakeholders. It provided a vibrant platform for recreation, learning, and meaningful interaction while promoting disability inclusion and celebrating the abilities of every child.
Throughout the day, participants enjoyed a wide range of activities, including inclusive games, talent showcases, recreational activities, interactive learning sessions, and community engagement activities that encouraged friendship, teamwork, and participation among children of all abilities.
A major highlight of the event was the Eye Clinic conducted by the dedicated team from Mengo Hospital, where more than 150 people received essential eye care services. These included comprehensive eye examinations and vision testing, refraction and prescription of spectacles, screening for cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions, treatment of common eye infections and allergies, distribution of reading glasses and UV-protective sunglasses, as well as eye health education sessions for parents and caregivers.
Beyond the recreational activities and medical outreach, the Child Fun Day created an opportunity to promote positive attitudes towards persons with disabilities, increase community awareness of the rights, abilities, and potential of children with disabilities, and strengthen relationships between families, community members, and other stakeholders.
The event also benefited from the active participation of the Buikwe District Local Government, represented by Mr. George Wasswa, the District LCV Chairperson, who reaffirmed the district’s commitment to advancing disability inclusion across local government programmes and projects.
Speaking after the event, Albinism Umbrella reiterated its commitment to ensuring that children and young people with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate, learn, and thrive within their communities. The Child Fun Day forms part of the Empower and Light Up Lives (ELL) Project, which promotes inclusive education, improved access to healthcare, and skills development opportunities for children and youths with disabilities.
Albinism Umbrella extends its sincere appreciation to Liliane Fonds, ALOHA College Marbella, Mengo Hospital, the Buikwe District Local Government, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and every child who participated. Their collective support made the event a resounding success and reinforced the shared vision of building communities where every child is valued, included, and empowered to reach their full potential.
