Driving Africa’s Health Future at the 9th RHNK Pan African Conference 2026
At the 9th Reproductive Health Network Kenya #RHNKPanAfricanConference2026, the call for a new era of youth leadership in public health rang loud and clear. Opening the session with a powerful vision, the Phiona Nantaba –Programs Officer urged delegates to rethink youth engagement—not as token participation, but as strategic partnership. The message was unequivocal: young people must step up as architects of Africa’s health future, not merely beneficiaries of its programs.
Youth as Architects of Change
Across the continent, young leaders are already proving this vision right. They are driving innovation, shaping policy decisions, and championing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights as a cornerstone of Africa’s development. True health security and sovereignty will not be handed down to youth; they will be built by youth. By investing in youth-led solutions and bringing young people to the heart of decision-making and implementation, Africa can unlock sustainable, equitable progress.
From Exclusion to Equity: A Call for Inclusive SRHR
She was honored to present an abstract titled “From Exclusion to Equity: Access to SRHR for Youth with Disabilities.” The session shed light on the persistent barriers that lock young people with disabilities out of critical health services—deep-rooted stigma, physical and communication inaccessibility, and a glaring lack of inclusive information.
Beyond diagnosing the problem, the presentation spotlighted practical, youth-led solutions already making a difference and underscored the urgent need for disability-inclusive SRHR programming. The response was immediate and energizing: the session sparked meaningful dialogue on inclusion, strengthened institutional recognition of disability-responsive SRHR approaches, and reinforced a shared commitment to ensuring that youth with disabilities are no longer left on the margins of policy and programming spaces.
Africa’s health security is not for youth. It is with youth—leading the way.
